Obsidio: Book Review

During the wee hours the morning today I finished the final book in the Illuminae Files, Obsidio. What a book! What a series! Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff know how to write! For those who haven’t read the series, I’ll try to avoid spoilers, but you should just read the series. All three books are a collection of files against BeiTech. In other words this is not told in the ole fashion way, there’s described video footage, interviews, etc. It’s a great series and I love each book (Goodreads).

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

These two authors know how to trick me and create plot twists I didn’t see coming in all three books, and this one was no exception. I dreaded picking this up even though I bought it when it came out because they are pretty ruthless in the other books. Yup, that is still true, they are ruthless. I love it, but hate it at the same time, in a good way. I shed some tears. Because even though there were some amazing plot twists, I knew I could count on Kaufman and Kristoff to be ruthless. I had some guesses on how it was going to happen and I wasn’t far from the mark. In saying that, you can see after finishing the series that Kaufman and Kristoff had everything planned out since the beginning. The overarching story, the characters and their growth was led up to the finale and was well executed.

Speaking of characters, I love every one so much. Every book new characters were introduced, which kept things interesting as the story developed. Each character had their own unique personality and through tragedy they were able to work together. They created a bond that may have not come to be under normal circumstances. It was a pleasure reading of their growing friendships, especially when they all come together in this book. They had to make hard decisions and grow up quick. They did things that saved thousands of saves. Among all this action was some romance, I’m such a sucker for love and romances and this series didn’t disappoint my need for romance (definitely mostly why I read YA, haha).

My favourite

My favourite ending was book 2, Gemina.

My favourite characters was Nik and Kady.

My favourite relationship was Kady and Erza (and Hanna and Ella).

Well that’s all for me today! I’m skipping Tag Tuesday because I’m working on a tag that takes a little more time! But never fear, it’ll be live short!

As always, thanks for reading!
