I did it! I participated in two readathons that overlapped! I just wanted to have fun and it was nice to have more motivation to read and do it with internet friends! 🙂
For the Read-EH-Thon, I managed to complete all the challenges with two books!
- Read a book with red on the cover
- Read a book by a Canadian woman
- Read a book with “E” and “H” in the title
- Read a book by an indigenous author
- Read a book set in a province you’ve never visited
The first book I read was Aftermath by Kelley Armstrong and I rated it 5 out of 5 stars. For this one, the challenges were red on the cover, b a Canadian female author and had “E” and “H” in the title. I always enjoy a Kelley Armstrong book and need to read more of them more often. I had idea what this book was about andI was sort of right, but not with the whole plot. This horror aspect that I did not expect, I think, took the book up a star. I did a full book review last week (Review).
Second, I read Birdie by Tracey Lindberg and I gave it 3 stars. This was for the last two challenges of a book by an indigenous author and in a province I have never visited. It was set in Alberta and British Columbia and I haven’t visited either provinces. I selected this book because of the challenges, the awards it’s gotten and high reviews, but I didn’t even read part of synopsis so I had no idea what this was about. I wish I did to prepare me for how dark this book is. I have a review up on Goodreads.
For the Tome Topple readathon, I didn’t really focus on completing challenges, but just getting reading done was my goal! Here are the challenges:
- Read more than 1 tome
- Read a graphic novel
- Read a tome that is part of a series
- Buddy read a tome
- Read an adult novel
I read from two books and finished one. I finished Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi which was read a book from a series. Secondly, the one I didn’t finish was Nevernight by Jay Kristoff; I technically started the audiobook a couple months ago, but haven’t been listening to it for a while. The readathon was a great motivation for me to listen to it more.
Children of Blood and Bone has so much hype. It was a really good book, but I did feel like it was missing something; I rated it a 4 star. The characters were strong other than Inan, he was very wishy-washy. The beginning was very tense and action packed and the second half, not so much. I’m still very excited for the sequel. You can find my full review Here.
Nevernight is one of my all time favourites and I wanted to do a re-read so I decided to download the audiobook. As I mentioned above, I started the audiobook before the readathon, was about an hour or so in and now I’m 4 and a half hours in. You can find my full review on Goodreads.
I’m so happy with all that I accomplished during these readathons even if reading so much made my arms and hands hurt, haha. I had so much fun and the Twitter reading sprints were my favourite part. Did you participate in these readathons?
As always, thanks for reading!
