The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams: Book Review

I had an unexpected long weekend this past weekend so I thought while I’m bedridden I’ll watch some Netflix and read. Just before starting Hitchhiker’s Guide I was in the middle of reading A Gathering of Shadows and started Vengeful. On Wednesday or Thursday of last week I DNF’ed Vengeful and put A Gathering of Shadows on hold too. So I was a little lost as to what to read.. I decided to go with my smallest novel, which was Hitchhiker’s Guide (Goodreads). Thanks to my friend Brittney who gifted this to me, and about time I picked it up, right?

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Based on my rating, you can see that I overall enjoyed it, but too short! I had a lot of fun reading this. There were parts that I had a hard time imagining what was being described and I think that’s because I don’t read enough Sci-Fi. I also wish it was a little longer to give opportunity to cement the characters and so I could grow to care for them a little more. I think if we got to know Trillian a little bit better that would help a lot. Her character line started at the party where she met Arthur and went off with Zaphod. That’s pretty much all we know about her.

I think that the themes, at times dark humour, and underlining meanings are what make the book so good. Kind of makes me think of Animal Farm by George Orwell, a classic with dark humour, social criticism and, other themes.

I don’t know if I’m going to continue with series. Do you think I should?

As always thanks for reading!
