Another book with disability! It was a happy surprise for me to discover the love interest is blind, especially in Historical Fiction (all genres lack disability rep but that’s changing, slowly as I mentioned before!). The whole set up for lovely Issy as a struggling orphan with no income, out of the blue inherits a castle, and have a hate-to-love relationship is wonderfully done (). I’m really excited to continue the series and read more by Tessa Dare. You need a smut recommendation? Here’s one!
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Any book with a main character that loves books and storytelling will always have a soft spot in my heart. Same with disability rep, so this a double whammy, haha. Romancing the Duke has a great concept and it’s well written. It was fun to see what fandom could have looked like back then and how it’s not terribly different now, haha. Where a community is created with people with like minded interest, except we had the Internet now.
I did like that they had immediate attraction even though I could see people arguing that but of course he was attracted to her, he hadn’t see a woman in a year or so. But I would like to think our Duke is a little less barbaric than that and that argument is a little sexist. That’s a rant for another post, haha. I thought both Duke and Issy were fascinating. One trapped by their shame of their injury, which led to blindness. Also, one trapped by other people’s ideologies of women, but also her deceased father’s stories.
As always, thanks for reading!
