Favourites of 2018

It’s finally 2019!! I’m happy to say I reached and surpassed my goal of 70 books! I read a total of 75 books, and in all 25,380 pages! You bet I waited to do this list so I had as much time as possible to read! So I thought it would be fun to list my favourites in a nice neat list 😍 Who loves lists?? πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ This list isn’t in any kind of order really. Hope you enjoy!

1. Saga Volumes 5-8

I love Saga. It’s the first graphic novel/comic that I’ve continued pass issue/volume 3. I can’t believe some of the twist and turns the series take. Mind-blowing is a good way to put it!

2. The Thief

The Thief was something I didn’t like very much when I first read it. But over time I thought about it and kept thinking about it. It grew on me until I decided to reread it, which cemented my new feelings of love. Definitely a slow burn!

3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I finally finished reading the Harry Potter series for the first time! I very much enjoyed the series as whole. Since I started the series two years ago, so much has changed in my personal life that has evolved my feelings of the series. Now, it’s something that is my escape; it’s so fun, but It does have some flaws. Same to be said about the movies. I watch them on the regular.

4. Anne of Green Gables

I’ve always had a special connection with Anne of Green Gables. I grew up watching TV movie specials from the 1980s, the TV show from a little later, and the first two books of the series. This year I watched the new series Anne on Netflix, which had a fresh take to the story. The new series inspired me to read the books. I really enjoyed rereading the book and can’t wait to continue with book 2.

5. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I can’t express my love of the book. It was everything I needed it to be. I’m going to read this over and overπŸ’œ I tabbed and annotated the crap out of it and can’t wait to go back to what I wrote. I love seeing so many others loving this book. Can’t recommend it enough! Because of how much I loved this I just bought majority of her other books! 2019 is the year of Taylor Jenkins Reid!

6. Obsidio

This was an excellent conclusion to a high action sci-fi series. I really love the unique format and would love to read something that’s similar. This is the most sci-fi thing I’ve ever read, now I would like to explore the genre more, but not sure where to start!

7. The Kiss Quotient

The Kiss Quotient is a lovely romance with a main character that’s on the Autism Spectrum. It was so interesting to read about their relationship and how her disability affected it. I’m so glad I picked this up. Since reading I’ve heard some critique about the relationship, saying Michael, the love interest, was too possessive. I don’t 100% agree, but I see where they are coming from and wanted to inform whoever was thinking of reading it.

8. Unbroken: 13 Stories Starring Disabled Teens

The world needed this for so long. This is the first book (that I remember) where I felt represented with chronic pain/illness in general. I adored the characters and each of them didn’t let their disability get in the way. They pushed on, they saw that there’s a world out there for them to explore and learn from. I so appreciate every person who had a hand in making this into a thing.

9. The Raven Cycle

This may be a little cheating because it’s a series not one book; I just thought it would make more sense to group them together than list each one. One of the few series I completed this year! I had so much fun reading each book. It was also great participating in a readalong for Blue Lily, Lily Blue and The Raven King. I think my favourite was The Dream Thieves, at least it is right now! I’m definitely going to start a reread very soon and see if I change my mind!

10. A Quiet Kind Of Thunder

What a great book. Both characters were adorable and I loved the inclusion of sign language.I took American Sign Language in high school so I always appreciate seeing it in media. A great YA contemporary representing mental health so well that I want to sing praise of the book on the mountain tops! I also loved their relationship. I really felt that they cared for each other, not just because the plot made it so.

11. The Name of The Wind

What a masterpiece! I feel like this short amount of space isn’t enough for this book or the next one on the list. However, I did write reviews for both of them, available right here on my blog! I can’t wait to continue the series!

12. The Final Empire

What a masterpiece number 2! I can’t wait to read A Well of Ascension! I’m literally going to pick it up next!

If you want to know more of my thoughts I have reviews here for majority of these, but all of them are Goodreads since I started my blog part way through the year.

As always, thanks for reading!
