Hamlet by William Shakespeare: Book Review

I decided last year that I will go through some of Shakespeare’s plays since I didn’t have an opportunity in school. The language is a little bit beyond me so I have watched a couple YouTube video breaking down the language and the events in this play. I also read summaries of each act to help me understand what’s going on as I listened to the audiobook. It helped a lot reading the play while I listened to the fully dramatized play.

For those who don’t know, Hamlet is about a ghost that appears, Hamlet goes crazy, and a lot of people die (Goodreads).

My Rating: 4. 5 out of 5 stars

Despite all of my efforts, I still got lost here and there, but I think that’s to be expected with text that is so foreign to me. It was a lot of fun. The fully dramatized audiobook was well worth the listen.

The video breaking down the play and its themes was also a big help because I could pick them out myself while going through the play, for example, greed and mental health. You can see how Hamlet looses his mind because of his father’s ghost and how his father died. He couldn’t cope with how his uncle becomes king and now laying with Hamlet’s mother.

As always, thanks for reading!
