Pride by Ibi Zoboi: Book Review

Good hello, friends! Today I got another review for you! My fibromyalgia has been making it hard to be constant with my posting. But I’m trying!

My lame synopsis: a Pride and Prejudice retelling in modern Brooklyn (Goodreads).

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Pride was a very strong retelling, however, I feet if you read this book without reading Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice you would be confused about the characters and their motivation behind their actions. They align very well to the original story, but there is not background in the book itself to explain why the characters the way they are. Without the Pride and Prejudice context they seemed unnecessarily mean.

It was so very nice to see a sense of community amongst the neighbourhood. I definitely don’t have that where I live. Along side that, it was great to see ZZ and Janae being modern women with ambition and wanting to make their world better. The Darcy boys supported them two women in their goals and that was a nice change from the original text.

Overall, I enjoyed Pride and would recommend to anyone who enjoyed Pride and Prejudice.

As always, thanks for reading!
