Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James: Book Review

Good hello, friends! Welcome to Tuesday’s review! I’ve finally made it to my March reviews! This first one, I started it back in the second week of February and it took me a while to read.

My Lame synopsis: African Game of Thrones with shape shifters and other fun magical creatures (Goodreads).

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

This took me a while to read because the world was dense and rich with description, and the poetic language was slow to get through. After I got use the writing and the world at about the 200 page mark I loved it until the end. I thought it was interesting reading from a perspective with an amazing sense of smell and all the things he picked up that I would never think about.

I liked how flawed Tracker was from the very start. Sometimes I wanted to just hit him over the head with something. Each character had their own unique personality and flaws too.

There was some serious, but great conversations around rape, consent, power, and women. It was refreshing to see these topics covered so well by a male author.

As always, thanks for reading!
