A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas: Book Review

Good hello, friends! Next up to review is my last attempt to like this series and really, Sarah J. Maas as an author. Let’s just say, didn’t go well, ha.

My Lame Synopsis: it’s loosely a Beauty and The Beast retelling with Faeries (Goodreads).

My Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I really tried to like this series, but what can I say other than I didn’t it. There were so many things I was uncomfortable with that I couldn’t look past, for example, toxic relationships. I really thought both love interests were horrible and giving a message that it’s okay to treat women that way. Both treated the main character poorly repeatedly then did something nice to make up for it. I’m sorry, but the “redeeming” qualities of the men did not excuse or make me overlook the crappy things they said and/or did. I personally, strongly dislike this ideology in relationships of ownership. What I mean is over and over characters say, “you’re mine” especially the male characters. I am my own person and this ideology I believe is telling of insecurities of those who feel they need validation that their partner is not going to leave them.

I also didn’t like the writing, mainly the language in which Maas used and how she handled mental health. Topics like depression and PTSD could have been what saved the book for me if it was done better.

The reason this book is a 2 star for me and not a one 1 star is because I did enjoy the action scenes and one twist near the end.

If you enjoyed this book/series/author remember this is just my opinion, I’m not trying to attack anyone so please don’t take it personally. ❤

As always, thanks for reading!
