A Torch Against The Night by Sabaa Tahir: Book Review

Good hello, friends! Happy Tuesday! Another rough day for me, but the blog must go on! Haha.. Anyway.. Yay, new review! After posting this I’m hoping to get some reading done while I rest and try to finish my 50th book of the year!

My Lame Synopsis: Book 2 of a series, so no spoilers. Go read book 1! Goodreads

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

First, I really enjoyed the story; Sabaa Tahir included some moments that were so heartfelt and others that made my whole body tense. I do think the characters were the strongest aspect of the book, which was also my opinion of the first book, An Ember In The Ashes: Book Review. I think Laia and Elias are unique characters that have experienced struggle and growth. My feelings of Elias hasn’t changed, he’s still my favourite character.

The only issue I had , which really took away from the experience is the magic system. There were a few times I felt like the limitations that were put on the magic system seemed to have no valid reason other than to drive the plot forward. Each time it happened it annoyed me more.

I’m excited to pick up the next book and hopefully my issue with this book will be explained in the next book. This very well could just have book 2 syndrome.

As always, thanks for reading!
